The Chaves County Health Council, in conjunction with Eastern NM Medical Center, La Casa and the NM Department of Health will host the first annual Chaves County Health Expo and 5k run, Saturday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Roswell Convention Center.
The event will be kicked off with La Casa’s Rooted in Community 5k run that begins at the Roswell Convention Center, heading east to Lovelace Park and returning to the Roswell Convention Center.
The race begins at 7 a.m., with check-in starting at 6:30 a.m. on the north side of the convention center. Visit http://bit.ly/la-casa-5k to register.
The registration fee is $15 and all proceeds will go to the La Casa Food Baskets to help feed families in our community.
The first 50 participants will receive a free T-shirt the day of the event.
The Chaves County Health Expo is an all age’s community event, designed to encourage health lifestyles, prevent and manage disease and illness and connect the community to resources.
The expo has over 110 booths which will include health screenings with reviews from physicians.
Health screenings include mammograms, blood sugar, dental, body mass index, blood pressure, eye test, skin cancer and much more. The Women’s Project will provide limited funding for free mammogram screenings.

The Kids Korner, located at De Bremond Stadium, will be giving away backpacks, school supplies, back to school hair cut vouchers from Olympian Academy of Cosmetology. Hot Dogs will be grilled by the Chaves County Sheriff’s Department. There will also be drawings for free bicycles, scooters and roller skates.
